My name is Melissa Hoener. I teach junior high school art in a rural area, north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am currently in my second year of teaching and am pursuing a masters degree, online through the University of Florida.
I graduated in 2011 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelors degree in art education. I also have two minors in studio art and art history. As I continue to grow as an educator, I will update this site to display my graduate work. |

Creative & Research Biography
I am a second year, junior high school art teacher, pursuing a MA Art Education degree through the University of Florida. During my time as an undergraduate, I gained experience in teaching through mission trips to New Mexico, camp counselor jobs, tutoring homeschooled students in art studies, and volunteering for a Salvation Army after school program. My most recent artwork explores the evolution of people and places, and I use primarily black and white drawing media. I strongly support using art to promote student self-expression. Art acts a method of communication, and this communication can offer a voice to all, equally.
